Test Your Metabolism

For years people have been saying you need to speed up your metabolism if you want to lose weight. That the reason you are tired and unable to lose those unwanted pounds was because your metabolism was to slow, and if you speed it up your life would be wonderful

Unfortunately the problem isn't a matter of simply speeding up your metabolism so your body can burn more calories. The real question is triggering your metabolism to burn more calories from stored body fat.

Your body is designed to burn calories for one reason...to produce energy. Your body produces energy by burning calories from the breakdown of carbohydrates, proteins (lean muscle) or fats. The body prefers to burn calories from fats, and gets two and a half times more energy when it breaks down fats instead of carbs and protein.

To assume that your body burns up more fat, simply by speeding up your metabolism is false. You can burn hundreds of extra calories a day by exercising - but if your metabolism is always being triggered to burn calories from the breakdown of lean muscle and carbohydrates...you will never be successful in losing those unwanted pounds. On top of that you will more then likely struggle with fatigue, cravings, mood swings and hormonal issues.

A quick check list to see if your metabolism is functioning properly, is:

* Do you struggle with cravings or low blood sugar?
* Do you skip meals or breakfast?
* Do you have to eat every couple of hours to keep your blood sugar up?
* Do you become irritable if meals are missed or delayed?
* Do you suffer from mid morning or afternoon slumps?
* Do you regularly eat refined, processed foods and drinks?

These are only a few of the questions, but they are obvious signals that your metabolism isn't functioning the way it is designed to and you are always going to be struggling with fatigue and weight gain until you address this problem.

If you are eating the wrong foods or not eating when you should - that's a problem and it will turn off your 'fat-burning' mode. Stress throws you out of your 'fat-burning' zone in a different way. All the cortisol and adrenaline your adrenals have to produce because of all the stress in your life triggers your metabolism to burn carbohydrates and proteins, Not stored body fats.

Stress is simply another factor that needs to be considered when examining how well your metabolism is functioning. So don't get caught up in the thinking that all you have to do is speed up your metabolism or count your calories, fats or carbs to lose weight. The key is to trigger your metabolism to burn more calories from stored body fat - when you do that you will definitely be on your way to a thinner and healthier you.

Yes exercise will speed up your metabolism, but it doesn't guarantee that you will be burning stored body fat...which is what the goal should be if you are trying to lose weight and regain your energy.
